Tricase in Summer: A Month of Festivals on Your Doorstep

Depressa, where both our houses are, is one of the five frazioni of Tricase — and every July the comune turns the whole town into a stage. Book presentations in the courtyard of a Renaissance palace, live music in a castle, a pizzica workshop that walks through the streets, and village feasts that go on until two in the morning. Almost all of it is free, none of it is aimed at tourists, and the furthest venue is fifteen minutes from your door.

Castello di Tutino: the music runs all month

Tutino is the next frazione over, and its castle courtyard is where Tricase puts its live music. Through July it hosts something almost every other night: the Festival Spiritosa, the Mediterranean set Calipso – Risonanze Mediterranee, Daf-Neas with Voci da Dafne, Porto Madera, and dj nights that run late — Discobastarda, About Ape, Boogie Night. The same courtyard hosts the Castello del Pensiero book evenings and, on the 19th, the Giardinomarket, a producers' market where the growers sell directly. Arrive around nine; nothing starts on time and nobody minds.

Palazzo Gallone: books, talks and a school of folk tradition

The Atrio of Palazzo Gallone — the vast baroque palace that is now the town hall — is the other main venue. It takes the literary side of the programme: the Premio Letterario Poiesis in the Sala del Trono, the presentation of Civita di Russo's novel Indomita, a charity burraco tournament, and a run of evenings from the Scuola di Storia delle Tradizioni Popolari, a short school of Salentine folk history open to anyone who turns up. If you want to understand why people here still dance the way they do, those evenings are the reason.

Pizzica, properly

On the 27th there is a Laboratorio di Pizzica Itinerante — an itinerant pizzica workshop that starts in Piazzetta Codacci Pisanelli and moves through the old town as it goes. It is a teaching session rather than a show: musicians play, someone explains the step, and the crowd learns it walking. Come with flat shoes and no plans afterwards. If you have only ever seen pizzica on a stage, this is the version that makes sense of it.

The village feasts

The Festa di Sant'Andrea Apostolo takes over Piazza Sant'Andrea for two days at the end of the month, with Caprarica è Musica and the dialect theatre piece La Socra following in the same square. Piazza Cappuccini gets the eighties-and-nineties night with guests from Radionorba, Piazza don Tonino Bello gets the rinGALLUzziti show, and on the last night of July Piazza Sant'Angelo does Sant'Angelo sotto le stelle. These are parish and neighbourhood feasts: stalls, plastic chairs, a band, everyone's grandmother present.

Depressa's own night

On the 18th, Piazza Castello in Depressa holds the Festa della Simeddha, run by the local Pro Loco. This one matters to us because it is the square at the end of your street — you can hear it from both houses, and you can walk home from it. La simeddha is the round loaf that gives the feast its name. Go hungry.

Down at the sea

Tricase Porto, ten minutes downhill, takes the events that need a view. The Rotary's Il Gusto del Bene is held on the waterfront, the volume Tricase Porto by Alfredo De Giuseppe is presented at the Rotonda, and Meridiana – Tra Radici e Astrazioni runs at Borgo di Nina. The one to plan around is Gli Ulivi in Concerto at the Uliveto Belvedere in Marina Serra on the 29th: a concert in an olive grove above the sea, at the point where the sun goes down behind the trees. Bring something to sit on.

This is the 2026 programme published by the Comune di Tricase, kept here as a reference for what a July in Tricase looks like. The shape repeats every year — the same venues, the same organisers, roughly the same weeks — but always check the comune's channels for the current year's dates before you plan around any single evening.

Practical notes

Nearly everything is free and outdoors, and nothing needs a ticket booked in advance. Evenings start late — nine at the earliest, and the music often not before ten — so eat first and treat the concert as the end of the night, not the middle. Parking near Palazzo Gallone and Piazza Sant'Andrea disappears on feast nights; leave the car on the edge of the centre and walk in. Take a light layer even in July, because the Adriatic side cools down once the sun is gone, and take cash for the stalls.
